Care and Maintenance

SWIMSUIT

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR VANESSA SPOSI PIECE

Our garments have been lovingly made in small batches. Any variation in color or texture only adds to its unique beauty.

Make sure you take care of your swimsuit as much as it takes care of you.

Hand wash cold with mild soap to remove chlorine and salt from the garment.

Do not use fabric softener. Do not twist, soak or bleach.

Do not tumble dry, iron or dry clean.

Dry in the shade. Do not leave rolled up wet.

Avoid contact with chlorine, hot tubs, tanning products, sunscreens and oils that can damage or mark clothing or rinse immediately.

Avoid rough surfaces to prevent the fabric from tearing.

If there is a stain (pen mark, oil stain, etc.), try using a chemical-free dish soap.

To remove deodorant stains from your swimsuit, we recommend using a foam makeup sponge.

Try not to swim in very hot water and never iron or tumble dry your swimsuit. Direct or high heat will damage the integrity of your swimsuit over time – nylon fibers can melt from the heat.

This swimsuit is unfortunately not sustainable enough, but it's the best we can do for now. For our main material, we use ECONYL® yarn, a 100% regenerated nylon fiber made from nylon waste that otherwise pollutes the Earth, such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpets, and industrial plastics collected from around the world.

When you wash products made from synthetic materials, even recycled yarn, tiny pieces of plastic called microfibers are released into the ocean.

You can use the GUPPYFRIEND laundry bag, designed to capture microplastics present in synthetic clothing. Instead of ending up in rivers, lakes and oceans, these plastics stay in the bag. Place your laundry in the bag and wash as normal.

SUMMERWEAR

Hand wash cold and air dry. Flat dry or professional dry clean.

To keep your garment looking its best, hand wash separately in cold water, use a small amount of mild detergent, squeeze out excess water and rinse again. To dry, lay the garment on a flat surface to air dry in the shade. Avoid tumble drying, chlorine, rough surfaces and drying in direct sunlight. Linen garments can be ironed inside out (while still damp) at a low temperature.

HATS

Below are our recommended tips for storing your hat:

  • ON A SHELF
  • ON THE WALL
  • IN A HAT BOX

We strongly recommend that you do not put our Panama straw hats in a plastic bag, the lack of air dries out the straw and can cause it to break. Our hats are made from natural materials and may change color and shape if exposed to long periods of heat and humidity.

Do not store your hat in your car, prolonged exposure to sun and heat will discolor and distort its shape.

CLEANING YOUR HAT

You can wipe small stains with a slightly damp white cloth. Do not use a cloth with dye on it, as it may transfer to the hat. For a small stain on a felt hat, we recommend using a felt sponge to clean the stain.

For larger stains, we recommend taking your hat to a local hat repair shop to have it professionally cleaned.

Avoid wetting our panamas, the natural fibers expand and distort their shape.
