ROXANNE MATTHEE
Roxanne Matthee, a South African model, is originally from Cape Town. Spotted at a young age by a local agency, she has now been working in this profession for over 10 years in several international agencies.
Roxanne travels around the world for her work but finds her balance between Cape Town where her family lives and Paris, where she lives with her fiancé.
We had the chance to collaborate with Roxanne on the ETE 0I collection campaign and we invite you to discover her world, her view on the fashion industry, and to benefit from her beauty advice.
HOW DID YOU START YOUR CAREER IN MODELING?
I was scouted at the age of 12, at a fashion show in my hometown in South Africa. At 14, I signed with the agency, Boss Models, in Cape Town. I have now been doing this job for over 10 years!
YOUR JOB ALLOWS YOU TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD, BUT WHERE DO YOU ARE HOME?
For me, “home” is between two cities. I couldn’t choose just one. Cape Town, because that’s where I grew up and where my family lives, but also Paris, where I work as a model and where I live with my fiancé.
WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE PLACE YOU HAVE TRAVELED?
I love traveling, that's why it's very difficult to choose just one place. I make the most of every city I visit, whether it's for work or pleasure. My favorite place is Portugal. I love the energy of the city, the state of mind of the people and of course the ocean and the sun all year round.
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHER YOU HAVE WORKED WITH?
My favorite photographer is Gavin O'Neill. He's an Australian photographer based in New York. We've done beauty and hair campaigns together. I love his very specific and artistic eye.
HOW TO KEEP A HEALTHY MIND AND BODY IN THIS IMAGE INDUSTRY?
I eat healthy and provide my body with the nutrients it needs. I enjoy bootcamp classes, yoga and Pilates. In my free time, I read many motivational books, cook and meditate.
WHAT BEAUTY SECRETS CAN YOU SHARE WITH US?
Always remove your makeup before going to bed! Drink at least 2 liters of water a day and plenty of green tea. Wear sunscreen every day
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR OFF TIME?
I love cooking, so on my days off I try new recipes. I spend time with my family and friends. I love nature and go for long walks or hikes.
WHAT DOES YOUR IDEAL SUMMER DAY LOOK LIKE?
It’s easy: Go for a morning jog, spend the day on the beach sunbathing, reading and swimming. Enjoy a glass of rosé at sunset and have a barbecue for dinner…
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
In summer I like to wear loose dresses and sandals. A boho look. In winter I like to wear blazers, jeans with a pair of heels. A classy and sophisticated look.
WE LOVED HAVING YOU ON OUR SUMMER 0I CAMPAIGN. WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS SHOOT?
For me, the highlight of shooting the ETE 0I campaign was seeing Ibiza in a much more beautiful way. I think I'm in love with the island now, the beautiful bars and restaurants really remind me of my home country, South Africa. I also got to work with my best friend Jeanni Mulder, who is the other model in the campaign.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE FROM THE SUMMER 01 COLLECTION?
It's hard to choose but I would say my favorite piece is the Le Plongeant swimsuit in aloe color. It can be used as a swimsuit but also be worn as a bodysuit with denim shorts.
