Roxanne Matthee is a South African fashion model, orginally from a small town called Melkbosstrand, close to Cape Town. She epitomises Scandi style with an South African twist.
Signed to an enviable list of agencies across the globe her work often takes her to far flung locations, but when downtime calls Roxanne Matthee dedication to all thing’s nutrition keeps her balanced, as well as her family and her fiancé, who means everything to her.
We caught up with Roxanne Matthee following her campaign for our new ETE 0I collection range to discover a little more about her thoughts on the industry, top beauty advice & life outside of modelling.
How old were you when you first began modelling ?
I was scouted at a local fashion show in my hometown when I was 12. At 14 I signed with my mother agency Boss Models in Cape Town, South Africa.
Where do you call home ?
Home for me will be between 2 cities. I won’t be able to choose only one ;). Cape Town, because it’s where I grew up and it’s where my family still lives & also Paris, it’s where I am based as a model and live with my fiancée.
As someone who is lucky enough to be signed to different agencies around the world, what’s been the most memorable place you’ve travelled to ?
I absolutely love traveling so it’s very hard to choose only one place. I make the best out of every city I visit, if it’s for work or pleasure. My favorite place would be Portugal. I love the energy of the city, the mindset of the people and of course the ocean and the constant sunshine.
Who’s your favourite photographer that you’ve worked with ?
My favorite photographer is Gavin O’Neill. He is a Australian photographer based in New York. We shot beauty and hair campaigns together. I love how his photography is very specific and artistic.
How do you keep a healthy mind, body and soul in an industry that can be so consumed with image?
I eat healthy and provide my body with the right nutrients it needs. I enjoy doing bootcamp classes, yoga and Pilates. In my downtime I read many motivational books, cook and meditate.
Being a model on the go what are your top 3 beauty secrets you can share with us ?
Always take off your makeup before you go to sleep! Drink at least 2L of water a day and lots of green tea. Wear sunscreen every day
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime ?
I love cooking, so in my downtime I try new recipes. I spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy the nature and go for long walks or hikes.
What does your perfect summer day look like ?
Mmmm that’s easy. Go for a morning jog, spend the day on the beach tanning, reading and swimming. Enjoy a glass of rosé with sunset. Have a bbq outside for dinner.
If you could fly in 1 meal from anywhere in the world what would it be ?
Sushi from Japan.
How would you describe your personal style ?
In Summer I love to wear loose dresses and sandals. A Boho look. In winter I love to wear blazers, jeans and heels. More a classy, sophisticated look.
We loved featuring you on our new campaign shoot for ETE 0I, what were some of the highlights for you on the day?
The highlights for me shooting the ETE 0I campaign was I got to see Ibiza in a much more beautiful way. I think I’m in love with the island now, the cute bars and restaurants really reminded me of home in South Africa. I also got to work with my best friend and the other model in the campaign, Jeanni Mulder.
What was your favourite VANESSA SPOSI piece from this shoot ?
My favorite piece is the gold halter neck full body swimsuit, The Plunge in aloe. It can be used as a swimwear and it can also be styled with jean shorts.
